Discover Africana

If you're in the mood to explore bold flavors and enjoy a cozy atmosphere, Africana on 14612 Liberty Ave, Jamaica, NY, is a spot you shouldn’t miss. This restaurant brings the vibrant and diverse tastes of African cuisine right to the heart of Queens, offering a menu that promises to take your taste buds on a delightful journey. Whether you're a fan of rich stews, savory grilled meats, or flavorful rice dishes, Africana has something to satisfy every craving.

One of the standout features of Africana is its commitment to authenticity. The menu boasts a range of traditional dishes from various African regions, each carefully crafted using fresh ingredients. From the spicy, aromatic jollof rice to tender goat stews, every bite tells the story of African culinary heritage. The restaurant takes pride in serving not only the classics but also some lesser-known delicacies that you may not find elsewhere.

During my visit, I couldn’t resist trying the infamous Jollof Rice, a dish that’s often considered the soul of West African cuisine. It was packed with flavor-perfectly seasoned, with a smoky undertone that hinted at its slow-cooked preparation. The rice was soft but not mushy, and paired wonderfully with the grilled chicken that had just the right amount of char and juiciness. If you're a fan of heat, their Pepper Soup is a must-try. It's an intensely flavorful broth that carries a kick, yet remains comforting and warm, perfect for any day.

The ambiance of Africana is another reason to visit. The decor has a modern yet welcoming African influence, with warm colors and artwork that gives the restaurant a relaxed, inviting feel. It’s the type of place where you can easily unwind after a busy day, enjoying both the food and the company. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to offer recommendations based on your preferences.

What really sets Africana apart from other eateries in the area is their emphasis on creating an experience, not just a meal. They don’t just serve food; they offer a taste of African culture. The chef often explains the history behind dishes, and the owners are deeply involved in the community, bringing people together through food. This sense of connection and storytelling makes dining at Africana feel special.

If you're wondering about the pricing, Africana strikes a perfect balance. The dishes are reasonably priced for the generous portions they offer, and you'll certainly leave satisfied. You’ll also appreciate the range of beverages available, from refreshing African sodas to a selection of wines and cocktails that complement the bold flavors of the dishes.

The restaurant also caters to a variety of dietary preferences. Vegetarian and vegan options are abundant, and they ensure that even those with special dietary needs can enjoy an authentic African meal. It's always great to see a restaurant that doesn’t compromise on flavor, no matter the dietary restriction.

For anyone unfamiliar with African cuisine or new to the area, Africana offers a welcoming introduction. It's a great place for those seeking something different from the usual dining experience. You could visit alone for a quick bite or gather with friends and family to share multiple dishes. Either way, you’ll leave with a full stomach and a greater appreciation for the vibrant flavors of Africa.

Not only is Africana a gem in Jamaica, NY, but it’s also a testament to the growing diversity of food culture in Queens. With so many different types of cuisines available in the area, Africana stands out by offering an authentic, flavorful, and comfortable experience. Whether you’re a long-time fan of African food or just starting to explore, this spot will quickly become one of your favorites.

  • First time here and it was such a great experience!! I’m pregnant so I was craving it and this restaurant was not too far so Me and my boyfriend ordered eguisi soup and the pounded yam that came with it. The workers were so nice and welcoming they were curious if we liked it and it was sooo good honestly! 10/10 would recommend and would order here again

  • I landed in JFK, all famished, and I wanted great African food. I booked a hotel near the airport, and by chance, this place was within walking distance. I came by just minutes before they closed for the night. I ordered take-out. I got beef soup with two fufu, and let me tell you! It was what I had imagined of what I was craving as soon as I landed back in NY! Auntie was super friendly and served me the perfect amount of food. Thank you, Auntie! Your food was so, so delicious!
